Now wouldn't that solve a great deal?
No more Mexican illegals.
The
billions
of dollars being sent back to Mexico would not matter.

There would be real reason for that press one to speak English.
No more drug tunnels.
What do you think?
What else would it solve?
And who doesn't want to add another star to our flag?

Now wouldn't that solve a great deal?
Well sure it would solve all the current Mexican problems, in a way. But at the same time it will only create new ones or more specifically shift the current ones to other people. Let me explain.
No more Mexican illegals.
True, but now we will have Central American illegals, everyone from Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Etc. BTW, these too are illegals who cross the border thru Mexico. Sure the Border would be smaller than in Mexico, that won't stop them from trying, not to mention using boats.
The billions of dollars being sent back to Mexico would not matter.
True, we'll just find someone else to send it to. Not to mention that such a poor country as Mexico is today, it would take a hell of a lot of money to bring it up to standard with the other 50 States. And just imagine all of the new Welfare and food stamp eligible people we will be adding to our system. Crash and burn comes to mind.
There would be real reason for that press one to speak English.
Tell that to the tons of Latinos who live in the US that still don't speak English to this date, legal or not. Just as my mom, she's a legal resident, her English is about as good as her french. French fries, french toast, french bread.
No more drug tunnels.
Even you don't really believe that one.
What do you think?
What else would it solve?
And who doesn't want to add another star to our flag?
You don't solve the problem by moving it back one border. All you do is change one of hundreds of cultures, who have easy access to the US, from being illegal. And to add another star to our flag by adding a country that will require the other 50 States to maintain it till it can sustain itself and add thousands more to welfare and Food stamps does not sound like something people here in the US have on their wish lists.
I'm sorry but this does not sound like a win win situation. I feel we will only change one set of problems for a bunch of new ones. And in reality not really solving the first set of problems, only shifting them to the Central American illegals.
Just my opinion though.

Ugh, and you think the welfare/social security problem is bad now?
Average American income for 2003: $37,800 USD
Average Mexican income for 2003: $9,000 USD
Now, I wonder how many Mexicans would immediately be elegible for food stamps, welfare, WIC, etc., and I wonder how that would compare to the addition to our GDP and tax income? Mexico claims a single-digit unemployment rate, but if you take into account the UNDERemployment rate you're looking at somehting in the way of 30% combined.
Imagine, if you will, the mass migration north once the border disappeared. If, and it is a big if, we could clear out the rebel and criminal mess in Mexico I suppose we could shift a lot of our ultra wealthy down there and get rid of them in the 'tropical paradise', which would be a plus. At least paris would have further to travel.
We'd be adding 100 million people to the American population, and getting basically nothing for it. Worse, we'd be gaining a huge organized crime and drug problem, and practically civil wars in the southern-most part of Mexico. No, frankly I think they'd have to pay us to take them, and I doubt they could put the first payment together.

I take that back, we'd be gaining probably something in the way of 70 or 80 million Democrats... if you want to call that a 'gain'...

It would become a 'farewell' party for Mexicans too. I bet Mexican new state would be rapidly depopulated.
Only way it would work is to slowly convert Mexican into USA state BEFORE officially becoming one. IE: slowly remove criminal elements (or in least remove most cartels or mafia-like groups), rinse standards of living to pretty close to average, then finally actually become part of USA.
Of course, we would have to weed out corrupt politicians. Anyone got weedkillers?
