Don't you love just love people?

Ms. Rice had wanted to meet Paul McCartney while she was here. But he declined the invitation, and so Ms. Rice visited the Liverpool Institute for the Performing Arts, where the former Beatle, and now Sir Paul, was once a student. She listened to a brief choral presentation in the Paul McCartney theater.

Half-a-dozen students, with the school director's permission, lined up just inside the school's front door and stood with arms crossed over black T-shirts that read: "No torture. No compromise."

So much phony outrage. What do any of you care? How does it affect you?

I guess for the same reason I care when I see a man, a supposed man anyway, act like an asshole toward a lady in public. It sets my teeth on edge.

Personally I like Condi, I think she's achieved a lot in her life and she is a great role model for young girls. You don't have to like her politics to agree she is someone with traits to admire.

Paul McCartney on the other hand is what? Did what?

He was rude and disrespectful...

Let's go back to the 1950s, shall we?

Yes. She's a woman in a position traditionally held by men. She shouldn't expect to get special treatment just because she's a woman.

He's a musician. An artist. Which I value much more than politics. He was in a band which conquered the world. A band which was instrumental in tearing down the Berlin wall. Where have you been?

I always have to laugh when I hear that a politician is a rock and roll fan. Like when Al Gore claimed to be a fan of Jethro Tull. All they're trying to do is get more votes.

If you have to go that far back to understand how a real man acts in public, feel free.

Uh, that's not even close. When does a few years of public service define a person's life?

She skipped first and seventh grades, entered college at 15, holds three degrees including a doctorate in political science, and earned her Master's in just one year's study. She was a professor of poly sci at Stanford and has also said that her dream job would be Commissioner of the National Football League.

Well then if that makes someone worth respecting then you will be glad to know.... Condi mastered the piano at three, and was told that she could have had a career as a concert pianist.

She can out play, out think, and out class that white trash 60's has been anyday.

Yeah, because before they became public servants they weren't even human right? Just little pods waiting to pop open, no history, no struggles, no victories.

Shesh.

I didn't know those things.

Condi mastered the piano at three, and was told that she could have had a career as a concert pianist.

And she gave it up. That does not earn my respect.

No, it's after they became politicians that they stopped being human.

She did not give it up. She studied it until done with college...and BECAUSE she chose not to be a concert pianist she pursued other things (but she still often plays for family and friends).

Bottom line. She's accomplished more as a PERSON than McCartney could ever dream. He disrespected her because of the job she holds now. Basically throwing the baby out with the bath water. It was short sighted and rude. It really is his loss.

She wasn't wanting to meet with him for politics. She is a musician and probably wanted to meet with him on those terms. He's just too stupid to even KNOW the woman he hates enough to publically rebuff.
on Apr 05, 2006
HAHAHA I am not going to defend ALL politicians...I can't. But I HAVE read a bit about Condi. She rocks, (pun intended) and when some half wit has been disrespects her it annoys me.

No, it's after they became politicians that they stopped being human

You're right! I mean what a bunch of pod people wanting to go into public service! Shame shame!

Someone better notify our local JUer Gideon that once he's elected into office, we are to no longer consider him human.

I for one am thankful for "pod people". They are the ones who actually sacrifice and get things done and that is why they catch all of the heat. We can survive without musicians. We can't survive without a structured society.

Icono, do you really believe a musical group brought down the wall? If you do, I guess I will have nothing further to discuss with you.

If you think we can survive without art, you're pathetic.

Icono, do you really believe a musical group brought down the wall?

They played a large part in it.

For the Russian audience, McCartney's appearance in Moscow is little short of a miracle. The Beatles were banned for decades by the Soviet government, which regarded their music as the epitome of Western decadence and propaganda, and the fans' only access to the group was through the occasional photo or black market album. Their reaction to his 2003 visit is a mixture of frenzy and rapture; in interview after interview, what one fan calls the Beatles' "gentle intervention" is credited with helping to bring down the whole Soviet system, simply because they represented a creativity and freedom that had been almost totally silenced. And that's all before McCartney plays "Back in the U.S.S.R.," which inspires a response that simply must be seen and heard to be believed. Link

If Gore truly WAS a Tull fan, he'd have muzzled Tipper back in the 80's. The PMRC crap was the ANTITHESIS of any "Rock and Roll" mentality!

How about we learn how to make our OWN music like people did for, oh, I dunno, THOUSANDS of years before the professional musician made us lazy.
